This year marks a significant milestone for Dalat Hasfarm, as they celebrate their 30th anniversary. Since its official founding in 1994, the Asian floriculture company provides flowers, pot plants and young plants to both domestic and international markets. "Reflecting on the journey, it is remarkable to see how the seeds of innovation and perseverance planted three decades ago, have grown into a thriving and sustainable enterprise," the Dalat Hasfarm team states.
The beginning of Dalat Hasfarm
The story of Dalat Hasfarm began three years before the company was even officially founded. In 1991, Chairman and founding shareholder Mr. Charles Target established a company called Bio-Organics with the ambition to export organic vegetables from Dalat (Vietnam) to Singapore. "Bio-Organics was among the first foreign investors in the region, but as often happens with pioneering ideas, the market was not quite ready for organic produce at the time. Despite early struggles, a happy coincidence would change the course of the company and lay the foundation for what Dalat Hasfarm is today," recalls the team.

From organic vegetables to flowers
By chance, the Dutch production manager of Bio-Organics, whose family grew lilies in The Netherlands professionally, received a box of lily bulbs from his brother as a trial. He planted the bulbs outside in the dry season of 1993, where the mild, dry Dalat climate helped the lilies flourish beautifully. "When Charles visited and saw the lilies in full bloom, he took a bouquet to his wife in Hong Kong. As he walked through the busy streets of Saigon, women kept stopping him to ask where they could buy such beautiful flowers. This unexpected interest gave him an idea, which soon grew into the thriving flower business we now know as Dalat Hasfarm. Organic vegetables gave way to sustainable flowers."
Development
From those early days of cultivating a small range of flowers for export, Dalat Hasfarm has evolved "significantly", shares the Dalat Hasfarm team. "As Vietnam's economy began to grow, so did the domestic demand for flowers, leading Hasfarm to expand their product range and services. Today, the domestic market accounts for half of Dalat Hasfarm's sales, a testament to the deep love of flowers among Vietnamese consumers."
Vietnam and beyond
Over the past 30 years, Dalat Hasfam has transformed into a company with over 200 hectares of greenhouses, a team of over 4,000 employees and sister distribution and production companies in Japan, China and Indonesia. The Dalat Hasfarm team comments: "Together, the Hasfarm group is now one of the largest floricultural companies in Asia, exporting flowers, pot plants, and young plants to to more than 20 countries. We now operate 22 retail shops and over 250 supermarket booths throughout Vietnam, showcasing the creativity of Vietnam's talented florists and providing exceptional service. And we are still growing clean vegetables."
Innovation and investment
According to the Dalat Hasfarm team, one of the key achievements in recent years has been the establishment of a young plants division, which supplies professional growers in North America, Europe and Asia with young plants. "Our young plants are grown in greenhouses and TC labs in China, Indonesia and Vietnam. An ongoing commitment to innovation, sustainability, and excellence has driven Dalat Hasfarm to invest in advanced technology, including state-of-the-art greenhouses. Our people consider their valued customers their inspiration to continually improve. The drive to meet and exceed expectations has been vital in the past three decades and will remain the key motivation in the years to come," they conclude.
